How Pots Are Made: A Picture Story

These were made by my first graders. Unbelievable right? No words during the demo. Large groups, many special needs, but something there's something about the magic of clay. . . it lets all kids create.

Here's the picture story of how the lesson went.

Fabulous book lent to me from a pottery lover at the school who used to live on the West Coast.
Great Native American Resource.

For our first hour we used our five senses to explore the clay medium.
This is the students listening to the clay.
We also practiced the creating a pinch pot a whole week before actually making our final.
This took a lot of stress of both me and the students.
When they finally made their pinch pots everyone was successful.
SORRY NO PICTURES OF MAKING THE CLAY PINCH POTS MY HANDS WERE TO MESSY!

Underglaze.

In the kiln with clear glaze (the pink stuff)
on top of their underglaze patterns.
