I love three things about it.
1. It's FREE!
2. It's Easy
3. It magically makes playlists I like with no more downloading, uploading, burning.Okay, I know I sound like an infomercial . . . you can make fun of me now.
The music teacher introduced me to Pandora. You can create playlists of music based on a genre. I like the holiday jazz and tween playlists for the classroom. MY favorite work music is the genre Singer/Songwriter (but it's for an older audience.)
With this being the most

I love Pandora at home. I can set up my own radio station with a mix of everything from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros to English country dances to classic rock (OK my taste is strange). My husband always has a puzzled look on his face when he hears the mixes of music I put together.
But we've been asked not to stream music at school - takes up too much band space or something? (I don't know the techno-jargon.) So I use Putumayo CD's and wacky music mixes that my son makes for me.
Oh - where did you find that great photo? When I started teaching I had a record player like that in my room - but NEVER hair like that!
When classes are good I let them pick and artists to hear. THey usually pick Selena Gomez or Miley Cirus. Be careful, though the songs are the originals not the PG versions. When I played Pink it had the cuss words!!
I played the jazz station when we talked about Romare Bearden.
I don't know anything about band space! I'm going to play stupid with that one so I can still listen. I love putumayo CD's too! Maybe I should ask for Christmas for one. I got that photo from google images 80's dj's:) Bet your son wishes you still had that record player. . . there's something with boys and records. We have records but no record player. Nick is obsessed with the idea of them I think.
Tishalou Selena Gomez and Miley Cirus have bad songs? I have to listen more. Pink definitely not. Jazz always play that but the kids said "I feel like we're at a wedding" the other day. I'm getting old I guess! Most of the time if I'm happy I don't really care what music they like. They need to learn some good musical taste right! I love yo yo ma and coltrane and miles davis in the classroom because it's recognizable. I once had a class ask to play miles davis Kinda Blue when I worked at a Montessori school. That was really cute. Do you listen to the TWEEN station? is that appropriate all the time?
We actually still have a record player at our camp, and my son loves exploring my old albums and buys his own at vintage music stores.
Oh gosh, we do NOT listen to any teen pop stars like Miley Cyrus or what's his name Bieber. My favorite cd was borrowed and not returned and is now unavailable at an affordable price: "For Our Children" with Bob Dylan singing "this old man" and Bruce Springsteen singing "chicken lips and lizard hips". Does anyone have this who can burn me a copy?
