The Listening Box: Fighting the Friday Fry

Sometimes I get to Friday and find I'm totally FRIED! All of the little things I was able to handle on Monday are suddenly getting under my skin. When I feel the Friday Fry coming on, one thing I do is bring out my LISTENING BOX.

Whenever a kid wants to tattle, and I can see them coming from a mile away, or just complain, I tell them to write it in the listening box. By the time they've written down and put it in the box they are usually over their little problemo!

Here's what it looks like. Can you see the BIG EARS?

. . . is being mean to me by copying my monster.

I am happy to say the listening box is almost retired as students are getting tired of writing down their little problems!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE THIS!! I am so going to steal it, ears and all!

Meanwhile - today, was Halloween at school, I made a decision a few days ago that I was NOT to wear a costume because I had a medical appointment and would had to run out of school early. So maybe next year I'll be "The Queen of Art"? Or maybe Andy Warhol...

Halloween was a non holiday this year (don't worry I'm skipping it too and it's usually my favorite) Maybe because it falls on a Sunday? Maybe because it's been so warm? Or so much has been going on?

And my Halloween dream is still a dream! No contact paper yellow brick road:) I didn't even put out the usual decorations. Can't force the decorating spirit though. Let's hope it will come back for the next round of holidays! They will be here before we know it:)

I'ver 'heard';) this is very successful. I think we talked about it when I did my master a couple years ago. Great tool... just never used it.

Ha ha. . .It was in Family Fun not too long ago. If you don't need to use it great. I basically only use it with a few of the kids (out of 600) and some years I don't use it at all:) This is one of those (y)EARS! Okay we can pun all day.

I had a class a few years ago that loved to "tattle". It was spiraling out of control until I installed a tattle phone. (An old phone I brought from home.) Worked wonders and restored my sanity!

That's sooo cute! You've got the little one's so they have a lot of imagination. I would love to be on the other end of that phone once in a while. Sometimes I pretend to use my classroom phone to call "people." I think we've all done that once or twice. Those are some funny one sided conversations.

I went as "pop art" this year! Wore a silkscreened t-shirt, carried an Andy Warhol Jackie O silkscreened handbag, and wore an Andy Warhol pin and ribbon and carried my favorite pop art book. Of course, just the tip of the iceberg where pop art is concerned, but the kids loved it!

Great idea - I got a talking to from a parent for calling a student little miss tattletale ~ Of course no one let me in on the fact she was told to tell when a particular student was saying innappropriate things - so I just moved him to the other side of the room!!
Phyl - I was Queen of Art - I had a red curly wig and a tiara and mini-smock that said Queen of Art like a beauty queen sash. Most kids said - are you a princess? I was going to put brushes and pencils in my wig but didn't get to it!

Ha ha. . . I was calling it the listening box and one kid says "Doncha mean the tattling box." "of course not" I was floored they catch on to this psychology stuff fast.
