Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skulls

After all the posts about the history of Dia de los Muertos (see the comic and movie), here is one of our Dia de los Muertos projects. Symmetrical Sugar Skulls!

First we folded the paper the long way "like a hotdog bun."
Next, we made our sugar skull design in black oil pastel on 1/2 of the page.

Then we folded the paper and rubbed hard to transfer the design to the other side.

Then we traced the symmetrical design.

We learned to use watercolor paints and painted using symmetrical colors.

Finally we added sequins to make them festive like Dia de los Muertos art.

We displayed them in the hall with the entries from our art journal.

Looking forward to reading your holiday posts!
