Warming up with Quilts

As it gets colder in Connecticut, I like exploring the art of quilts. Faith Ringgold is of course a favorite that I teach in second grade every year. For an easy introduction first graders created a simple quilt square to learn about A B patterns, sketches, and final copies.

This is a winter themed quilt that my first graders made. We brainstormed things that remind us of winter and they made their first sketches. They drew four ideas and we choose their best one.
