The Big Picture. . . Landscapes

You know all of those beautiful art prints, calendars, National Geographic magazines that you've been saving. Well, it's almost the end of the school year and it's time to make some space in the closet. I found the best landscapes in my stash and cut them into long rectangles. After discussing landscapes by different artists, I poured out tons of slices of landscapes onto the tables. Students loved looking through all of them (so get ready to set your timer or this could take all day.) After a few minutes, we were ready to begin to imagine the bigger picture. First we used a glue stick to glue down their picture. Next we continued the horizon line of the scene and then imagined what might be outside the frame. I let students choose their supplies such as colored pencils, watercolor, or crayons.
