Who Can't Dance?

Giraffe's Can't Dance is the perfect book to talk about how to show movement in art.

How does the illustrator show movement? Students said he changed the position of the arms, legs, drew the giraffe off the ground, added lines to show movement like in a cartoon. Next I demonstrated how to use simple shapes to draw a giraffe dancing. Naturally students asked if they could draw any animal they want. I was thrilled they were confident enough to use their own ideas! The objective is to show movement in this piece not to draw a giraffe. So we ended up with Cat's Can't Dance, Dinosaurs Can't Dance, Squirrels Can't Dance and of course
Giraffe's Can't Dance!
