Simply Your Best Lesson Multiplied!

We got two feet of snow which bought me some peace and quiet to make substitute lesson plans.
I am almost finished with 8 weeks worth of lesson plans, handouts, examples, etc etc etc. for my maternity leave.

All this lesson planning gave me an idea.

A BEST LESSON CHAIN:
Send me ONE of your best and simplest lesson plans (via e-mail) and I will copy it into a common format and e-mailed everyone back a huge packet of lesson plans! They can be used for your classroom or for substitutes.

COST: Nothing! One plan gets you many more (as many as people participate) all formatted by moi into neat PDF's ready to print.

CRITERIA:

  • Simple! A lesson anyone can follow.
  • Materials: Uses only paper (color or white), pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, glue (NO PAINT OR CLAY ALLOWED sorry)
  • Include:
    •  TITLE
    • Procedure
    • Materials
    • Objectives
    • Vocabulary
  • A picture of the finished product  (We're visual people.)

Here's a sample of the format I created that you will get.

If you choose to participate you will get a packet of lesson plans as soon as I finish making them probably 2 weeks depending on interest. The latest date will be June 30 (if there is a flood of interest). Imagine starting off 2011 school year with your substitute plans ready to go!

  5. Sounds like a fun idea, but are you sure you want to take the time to do this? After all, you're getting ready for baby - and after baby is born, don't assume you'll do this when she's sleeping. You may want to sleep too... But anyhow, I'm in, but it will help if you post a reminder in about a week. I've got requisitions due and I've got to get to work on them too, but don't want to forget to get a plan to you.

  6. Just realized - you didn't listen to all of us who told you to let the sub who will be getting paid do her own planning! Let it go!!!

About your snow - we didn't have quite as much as you but I had a snow day too. My son drove to Boston from Croton-on-Hudson last Friday, and it took him 8 hours, most of the time spent in CT where it was bumper-to-bumper traffic and poorly cleaned roads. It took him less time to drive all the way to Rochester from Boston! He said "I don't think they plow in Connecticut". He told us that the minute he crossed into Mass the roads were just fine and the snow had been plowed. Is this a typical scenario?!

  7. I KNOW Phyl! I wanted to leave it to her but I ended up getting a non art person. I think it would have been pandomonium!

I am so glad he is there safe and sound! I tried to get home in the last snow storm from Philly and I couldn't even get off the highway in CT because the exits weren't plowed. Imagine being pregnant and having to pee trapped in the car! Not my finest moments. I don't think they plow well at all although they always say they do. We have school off AGAIN tomorrow and I'm really disappointed! I can't stay in my house this long. . . better get used to it I guess:)

YES! I definitely want to do this. It will be just a bunch of cutting and pasting into a format I already made. I have been considering it for a few months and it's an idea I can't get out of my head. . . might be a worthwhile one!

  8. P.S. I'm honored that you are going to participate especially since you're planning on retiring (we shall see:) and have awesome lessons.

  9. I am in! I always struggle for sub plans and end up spending way to much time planning. Oh what a relief it would be to just leave my sub folder and be done with it :)

  18. I just posted on my blog about art room centers I created for days when I am absent. It doesn't really fit in as a "best lesson plan" but it might be a useful idea to leave in an emergency, too!

You did get it. I wrote this comment before I checked my e-mail and you had responded there. It was the SIMPLE lesson: 4-Letter Words. Thanks again for organizing this!!

  26. I'll try to remember to get some regular paper format lesson plans when I get back to school. For now, maybe you can just enter these two links for me. I created two videos for subs. All they do is press "play," "stop," and listen to the answers to the questions I ask on the videos. They were specifically made as sub lessons.

  27. has anyone already sent in a falling backwards lesson (tracing your hands and feet at the coroners of the paper and then putting a body in the middle?) I don't want to double send it if you already have it.

  32. Would love to participate, even though I just follow your art blog. Too busy with two kids under four to blog, but I thought this idea was wonderful. I really enjoy reading your entries.

  33. Dear anonymous, You don't have to have a blog to participate! In fact many of the submissions are from blog followers. It is a great way to share if you don't want to get knee deep into blogging. I think that's the coolest thing that came out of this. I met people who are interested in blogs but haven't commented or had a chance to share until now. I never expected this much from it. What a great collaboration
