UPDATE: I meant to do the drawing this long weekend! Tomorrow, TUESDAY I promise xxx
Stella will pick from a hat a name :) hopefully yours! We really enjoyed this long weekend. Here's a view from my part of the world! I also have been enjoying my little photography business! Like my facebook page, it would make my day.
I was shopping for some books at Barnes and Nobles tonight and dropped $40.00+ on just three new books for my classroom! Yes it's hard to resist books that I know will inspire a great lesson for the little ones. I love these BOOKS.
You have to check out this book Too Much Glue the next time you are at the bookstore. I saw it sitting there on the shelves of my local Barnes and Noble so I'm sure it is at yours too or order it from Amazon.
I am giving away TWO FREE HARDCOVER COPIES to two lucky readers!
What I love about this book is simple. . . THE KIDS LOVE IT. From my two year old to my second graders, they all love this book. I have kept a copy in my art room library because some of the older grades want to read it when they finish early.
There is something in the magic mixture of the zany plot and explosive illustrations that kept my students GLUED to this book. A few weeks later they are still saying "make glue raindrops, not puddles!"
When I first read this book I liked it but to be honest the illustrations were a little "digital" for my taste. I think that is actually part of the reason the kids like this book so much. The digital look of the illustrations really speaks to their generation (wow I feel old!) The perspective of the illustrations is phenomenal and there is so much detail in each page.
The story is about a kid who (ready for the shocker) uses too much glue! His friends try everything to free him of this sticky situation but no one can help. . . until dad comes. The glue finally dries and dad "peels" him free like a banana. I love this part because it teaches kids how to peel glue from their fingers and not go to the sink for every little mess. His dad and mom are very supportive of his art and hang the glue creation on the fridge. They decide in the end to listen to the principal and use tape instead. You can imagine the mess the family makes with the tape (I see a sequel!)
You could do so many lessons with the little ones and this book, but I used it to begin a collage lesson and teach glue skills in a memorable way.
Hope you enjoy this little review!
